About Dr. Groomer

Dr. Groomer suffered injuries to his lower back in his early teens.   At age 14 he was diagnosed with a degenerative spinal disorder and was referred to an orthopedic surgeon; his only treatment alternative his family was told was aggressive lower back surgery.   Faced with bleak prospects for the future, Dr. Groomer’s family sought alternative treatment through a chiropractor which incorporated physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, and a comprehensive nutritional program.  Following this strictly physical and nutritional program, Dr. Groomer was able to not only avoid surgery - but as a direct result of the treatment well enough to pursue the study of several physically vigorous martial arts for the next 25 years.

With an interest in kinesiology and sports medicine, Dr. Groomer earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and kinesiology and physiological systems, which he followed with a year of postgraduate studies in biomechanics.  As Dr. Groomer pursued his undergraduate degree, he sought a career path that would allow him to merge the progressive philosophy of chiropractic medicine with the strengths of conventional Western medicine.  This steered Dr. Groomer into the field of osteopathic medicine.

Dr. Groomer completed a residency and board certification in family practice, and then earned a second board certification in the osteopathic subspecialty of Neuro-Musculoskeletal Medicine.

Following residency, Dr. Groomer worked as an emergency room physician, and for the last 15 years, has worked extensively in the fields of physical medicine, occupational medicine, and conservative pain management.  He has also served as a medical-legal consultant, and fierce patient advocate.

With a considerable and broad breath of medical experience, Dr. Groomer brings to bear the benefits of the holistic osteopathic philosophy combined with the strengths of a disciplined, conventional medical background in the treatment of our patients.

As the medical director for South Lake Medical Center, Dr. Groomer serves our clientele with compassion, integrity, and nearly 20 years of clinical experience in the field.
